The history of Radium
How it was discovered: Radium was discovered by polish scientists Marie Curie and Pierre Curie on December 21, 1989. The Curies were examining a uranite sample when they saw a mineral inside it, they took it out and found it was still radioactive. They extracted the radioactive mix and found out that it
was very similar to barium an element in the same period as radium. 5 days later, Marie and Pierre announced there brand new discovery in the French Academy of Science. The element was named Radium after the Latin word Radius which meant ray. Radium was also used in the famous Rutherford experiment as alpha particles that were shot at gold.
